What I did this week

I went to see 'Floor Plan' an exhibition at the Pheonix Gallery in Brighton. I especially enjoyed Rich White's contribution to the show. A very well considered installation that brought humour and a sense of place and history to the context of the exhibition. He tapped into the tale of 89 year old Harriet Sylvester who refused to sell her house in the face of the Pheonix's endevours to expand by purchasing the adjoining flats. It was not until her death that the Pheonix were able to buy the building and complete their expansion. White's work uses reclaimed and found materials from the area to construct and imaginary world where Ms. Sylvester resides within the walls of the Pheonix. The work is both poignant and thought provoking.

I also enjoyed see the work of Rosalind Davisin the flesh. I have long been a fan of her work but have not previously had the opportunity to see it in the flesh. It is as you would expect even better in the flesh.
