This week I went to see the Jeff Koons 'Popeye Series' exhibition at the Serpentine. I'm a big fan of Koons' work and was not disappointed by the visual spectacle that the Serpentine had in store. My only problem with the show, and for me it was a pretty big problem, was trying not to touch the inflatables and as a result get chucked out of the gallery. It was the first time I'd ever been able to get so close to them and they were so big, so bright, so intense, so fantastic, soinviting that it took every particle of my being not to touch. In fact I had to literally walk with my hand bound behind my back and couldn't spend as much time as I'd liked due to the temptation which was just too great.
The serpentine is a great gallery, it allows you to get a very personal and intimate look at work by some of the best artists working today. But I do wish they'd give me a special touching permit...
