Jamaica turns 50 this year

So the little island that always makes a big splash turns 50 this year. It's been an impressive year for jamaican arts this year so far there has been amazing Better Mus Come feature film directed by young Jamaican film maker Storm Saulter. The recent release of the critically acclaimed Bob Marly biopic directed by Kevin Macdonald. There have already been the annual events such as the Calabash Literary Festival in Port Antonio, The global International Reggae Day. There is the inaugural Reggae Poster Contest that has just closed entry. There has been the a major retrospective of work by the revered Jamaican painter Barrington Watson at the National Gallery of Jamaica. And that's to name a few of the events that have already taken place during this monumental year.

As we get closer to August 9th things seem to be picking up even greater momentum with big celebrations planned in Canada and the UK. Not to mention the looming Olympic hopes of our world renouned Jamaican athelets.
